A HUGE LETDOWN FROM PREVIOUS SHOWS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST

My wife and I have seen Phantom 8 times in the past. At intermission we stood up and looked at each other with the gaze of what has just happened. Songs shortened, lyrics changed, at times humor and playful nature of the actors minimized. Huge changes in the set and outright leaving parts out that made the original show so magicial. The chandilier rising from the stage, the boat ride and song as they went to his lair, the stair case and costumes in Masquerade. Christine putting the ring on a table instead of giving the right back to the Phantom directly. The singing and acting was at least 2 steps below anything we had seen in the past shows. We waited all year for this show, and to be let down so badly, I wish we could get a refund and see a different show. For those that have never seen Phantom of the Opera, they probably enjoyed this very much. But if you have seen the old version of this show, skip this one and do not let your fond memories be tainted.

LOTS OF SOUND ISSUES AND MUSICAL TIMING

I saw the show in Columbus, OH and it was great. Grodin is a superb Phantom, and the rest of the cast was excellent. When they came to Cincinnati (my town), I went to see it again. The performance was good - but lots of parts were sung rather fast, almost like they had better places to be. It left much to be desired. I still loved the show overall. So I took my mom for Mother's day sat. eve. She hadn't seen it since Michael Crawford played the Phantom. When we arrived, the understudy took over for the Phantom for the last week it was in town. A bit disappointing, I had talked up Grodin to her, and now felt a little stupid. BUT - When Snyder went to sing his first lines as the Phantom - nothing came out. His mic was dead!! You couldn't hear him again til they went downstairs, and when he tells Christine to "SING" he just walked off stage. Probably to fix the mic before MOTN. Smart move. But his performance was affected. After Int. he was amazing! But sound problems continued. :(

VERY DISAPOINTING

Having seen Phantom of the Opera on multiple occasions in different cities, I have to say that last evenings performance left me wanting. There was a distinct lack of depth or emotion in the singing and the stage design minimized all the grandeur of the original. For most first time theater goers this may have been a pleasant enough experience however, if you've seen a previous production of PTO I would skip this particular endeavor. They changed the lyrics of several songs, what were they thinking?

WHERE'S THE GRANDEUR?

Attended the Phantom last night with my four children, ranging from 12 to 25. It was their first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. I, however, was sadly disappointed. Where was all the pizzazz? Hate the new set. From the moment the chandelier was revealed, I knew the grandeur was gone. The simple up and down motion of the chandelier is far less dramatic than it rising from and falling to the stage. The phantom lacked any huge presence and seemed like just some guy. Voices were decent but difficult to make out the lyrics if you didn't know them. Masquerade was the saddest part of all. No staircase, no flamboyant costume. And what happened to the zillions of candles when the phantom is taking Christine on his boat? That was supposed to be an iconic scene but felt so watered down it made no impact. Where was the scene with Christine in a bridal gown? Just cut that? The phantom's disappearance at the end was also anticlimactic. For a $700 night out,I don't feel we got our money's worth. Sa

BUMMED, THIS PHANTOM WAS NOT AMAZING :(

If you have never seen other productions of the Phantom Of the Opera, and if this was your first time seeing it, then you probably thought it was fantastic but not knowing what the past shows were like let me just say that I have been to many other productions of Phantom and this one was a total disappointment and I was dissatisfied with it . The set was interesting but It did not have the grandeur of past sets & did not feel like broadway. Very lacking. No passion from the actors Singing was just ok I have heard better. Over all. I think it was poorly done. Costumes were disappointing and even more disappointing was Masquerade, no splendid costumes and grand staircase no crashing cymbals, not nearly good enough singing. Feeling so let down because I know how amazing the Phantom can be I've seen it ! And this show was anything but. So so dissatisfied and disappointed. What a bummer. I have seen it before and it was so much better in the past than in this production. Shame.

DISAPPOINTED IN THIS VERSION OF PHANTOM.

While it was a good show, it was Not a phenomenal show. The singing was good but I have heard better. I have seen better Productions of Broadway's Phantom of the Opera , this show was very different from past shows I have seen I did not think it was as well done and I was let down and disappointed. It felt like they did not want to put much money into this show. The set was revolving and though interesting didn't feel like a broadway set. The singing was good but not mind blowing I have seen and heard better. I didn't feel the passion from the actors in the lead roles. Costumes were not as good as in past either. Masquerade was a disappointment as well. No grand stair case or splendid costumes. No cymbals cashing not well enough singing. I guess if this was your first time seeing it you would have loved it but I have seen it many times before and this performance was a let down because the past Phantoms I have seen were just so phenomenal and amazing.
