GREAT PRODUCTION VALUES. GOOD PERFORMANCE. NO CHEMISTRY.
The updated staging and effects are a welcome and refreshing addition to this
classic.
Eva Tavares and Quentin Oliver Lee put up great vocal performances. They are
certainly talented. However, what was lacking was the chemistry that is so
essential to the relationship between Christine and Phantom.
What should be portrayed by Christine as being torn by a mix of fear, fascination,
pity and love for Phantom falls flat and comes across as simply disgust for him. In
return, Phantom's only link to sanity and humanity should be anchored by
Christine and that crucial part of him just doesn't come across well. This very
complex and essential part of the story is just not well-interpreted and executed by
Eva and Quentin.
In previous viewings of Phantom I've found myself on the edge of my seat,
completely engrossed in watching this enthralling dynamic play out between
Christine and Phantom. In this rendition I found myself disappointed when I
should have been completely captivated.

SO DISAPPOINTED!
First, let me say I have seen POTO is the past
several times and I was beyond excited when
I saw it was touring through. I bought tickets
for my young daughter hoping she would fall
in love with the story, the music, and the
grand performance that I did at her age.
Nope. What a mess of a production. The
cheap revolving stage, the NON
rising/crashing chandelier, the minimal
costumes, no masquerade staircase, and all
the changes to the choreography has
completely ruined what was once a most
spectacular and emotional experience. The
whole storyline is now so muddled. My
daughter was lost the entire time and I kept
having to explain the scenes to her. She was
not impressed. And, I, of coarse, was more
than sad and frustrated that the experience I
had hoped to share with her had been
ruined by someone's idea of "better". Well,
if no drama, no mystery, no heartpounding,
and no love for the characters is "better".
There you go.

CHRISTINE REPLACED WITH SUBSTITUTE :-(
Attended June 19th.
Phantom -AWESOME.
Raoul - AWESOME.
The comedy of the opera owners was hilarious - they all did a great job and the stage effects and management was fabulous.
Unfortunately on the evening we had tickets Christine was replaced with a substitute and she was awful. Off tune. Totally the wrong type of voice for Christine...she should be 'pure' not 'warbly'. That actress would have been perfect as Carlotta, but definitely shouldn't have been cast even as a backup for Christine. Even Carlotta sounded better than her. It was a real let down. My all-time favourite musical. The phantom and Raoul were really, really good, as was the rest of the cast and the staging. This would have been a 5 for me if not for the poor performance of Christine's replacement. Ultimately I begrudge the 100s of $ spent on the tickets because Christine's songs are some of what makes this musical one I will attend again and again.

MEDIOCRE AT BEST; LACKLUSTER PERFORMANCES; JUICY PHANTOM
Having seen this show several times in multiple places, I was deeply disappointed and
would have to consider this mediocre at best. The cast, while passable if one were
performing locally, failed to bring the romantic flair and melancholy that is associated
with the Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom, while his voice was nice, had a severe
saliva issue that would cause constant projected sprays throughout the show. In fact,
moments where the Phantom leaned down during scenes, small globs of spit would
drop to the floor or set beneath. This, for me, proved very distracting and scenes
between he and Christine seemed to play out with this issue in mind, thus removing any
sense of chemistry throughout the sets. The show felt disjointed, Rauol seemed more a
schoolboy learning his parts for a highschool play, and many of the other of the cast
made you feel like you were at Disneyworld watching an outdoor rendition of Beauty
and the Beast while munching on popcorn. Disappointed!

SHOCKINGLY AWFUL DISAPPOINTMENT-DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY
and I'm a big fan of POTO! Saw this at the Keller auditorium last night. If it weren't
for ruining it for my wife I would have walked out early on. The main cast, save for
Carlotta (Trista Moldovan), was AWFUL! The Phantom (Quentin Oliver Lee) being the
worst, such a let down. The only time he had any power behind his voice was literally
the last line of the show. You could barely hear him the rest of the show, and when
you did it sounded like a whiny high school teenager. Christine (Eva Tavares) needs
to go! Also no power, she rushed through most of the actual lyrics without actually
singing them through, totally FAILED on 'The Point of No Return', my wife said she
sounded more like a high pitched Disney character. To make it worse there was
ZERO believable chemistry between the Phantom and Christine. The sets were small
and cheap looking, they shortened many of the original breathtaking scenes. I could
go on but you get the point. Fans of the original production WILL be disappointed

SO DISAPPOINTING!
The cast had some strong voices, but they all
sang too fast. “All I ask ask of you” needs to
Have passion and love. There was no chemistry
between them. Christine is torn between the
Phantom and her lover. Didn’t showcase that
well. Raoul’s voice was too naizel for his
character. Christine was too short and didn’t fit
the roll. She had a good voice. The sets where
great but we walked away during intermission.

DISAPPOINTED
I have to say that this last performance of Phantom of the Opera was VERY disappointing. Having seen it 15+ times from L.A. to Las Vegas to Portland, this production fell flat. Not only did they make major changes to the sets (boat ride to the labyrinth, staircase in the Masquerade ball, office of the opera owners???, and most of all, the Chandelier!!) those things that make a statement weren't there. I think they were trying to save money this time around. Costumes weren't as elaborate either. But the REAL disappointment was that they changed the ENDING!! All this being said, the singing by everyone was good and the orchestra was great I think I'll pass on this the next time it comes to the Keller. The price of an orchestra seat wasn't worth it this time. But if you've never seen it before, you won't know the difference. So enjoy.
