Canadian Opera Company - Orfeo ed Euridice

An ancient tale as brilliant as ever
Why see Canadian Opera Company - Orfeo ed Euridice?
Ancient Love
Captivatingly minimalist, Robert Carson's take on Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice runs at the Four Seasons Centre courtesy of the Canadian Opera Company. A fascinatingly original imagining of the 1762 masterpiece, discover the ancient Greek myth once more with Iestyn Davies as Orfeo, tasked with diving into the underworld to retrieve his lover Euridice (Anna-Sophie Neher). Gluck's inimitable score is conducted by Bernard Labadie.
What is the Story?
Orfeo mourns his recently departed wife Euridice at her tomb, despairing at the thought of living without her. When Amore offers him the chance to see her again, he accepts the quest, his heart full of a possible reunion. However, he must accept the terms of his task, when he rescues her, he is not to look upon her before they make their return. Orfeo stills his nerve and resolves to complete the journey, regardless of the implications. With a dangerous journey to Elysium, the wrath of the Furies and one very confused lover, Orfeo and Euridice is the perfect story for fans of opera, old and new.
