Why see National Ballet of Canada - Onegin?
Letters of love often hold a demise
The National Ballet of Canada is bringing John Cranko's masterpiece, Onegin to the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The three-act ballet is based on the novel of the same name by Alexander Pushkin and is a dramatic tale of love and tragedy. Cranko's take on Onegin differs from the original in one particularly notable way, as it uses lesser-known compositions of Tchaikovsky's as opposed to the original operatic score. A thrilling tale of heartbreak and unrequited love, Onegin is a must-see this fall!
What's it about?
An aristocrat by the name of Eugene Onegin escapes to the country to find some excitement in his life. There he meets a young woman by the name of Tatiana, who falls in love with him. Onegin treats Tatiana cruelly, ridiculing her and pursuing others in front of her with no regard for her feelings. Tragedy follows, and Onegin must come to terms with his horrific actions.
