The Canadian Opera Company brings Louisa Muller's critically lauded production of Benjamin Britten and Myfanwy Piper's gripping operatic Victorian ghost story, The Turn of the Screw, to Toronto. Based on Henry James' 1898 novella, Britten and librettist Piper craft a seductive and psychologically compelling tale, marrying the score and story together expertly into what is now considered one of the finest English operas, unsettling audiences all over the world since its 1954 premiere.
Menace seems to haunt every corner of Bly House, the new home of a young governess, charged with looking after the manor's two orphaned children, wards of an unseen and un-caring guardian. As chilling tension grows, the governess must face up to the ominous spirits haunting the estate, before she becomes one herself.
