A trip back to the 'dry days' of the 1920s
Soulpepper tap the heady days of Prohibition for this new show that takes us on a trip down memory lane to a time when alcohol was banned. Far from encouraging a nation to embrace abstinence, the order only pushed the fun underground, where glittering guys and dolls, gangsters and molls luxuriated in song, dance and laughter like never before.
Prohibition, or the banning of alcoholic substances for the population at large, came to define a generation, forcing a subculture to emerge of speak-easies, smugglers and bootleggers. Alongside the supply chain, a great deal of entertainment evolved, with the music, art and literature emerging under the banner of the 'Roaring Twenties.' Albert Shultz and Mike Ross take you back in this fantastic concert experience.
