A Chorus of Disapproval
A local amateur theater group's production of the infamous 'The Beggar's Opera' comes to blows when an aspiring actor, the widower Guy Jones, quickly rises through the ranks to bag the male lead leaving a trail of liaisons with the productions female cast in his wake.
As the action on stage blends from in front of the curtain to behind it, with a pit stop in the local pub, the audience are led on an hilarious trail of misdemeanours and blind ambition accompanied by some of the songs from the original 'The Beggar's Opera'.
Ayckbourn's comedy opened at the National Theatre's Olivier auditorium, London England in 1985 where the original cast included theatrical big wigs Michael Gambon and Imelda Staunton. Due to the worldwide love for this comedy of errors A Chorus Of Disapproval got a motion picture revamp in 1989 which starred Jeremy Irons as lothario Guy Jones.
