Hitchcock's twisty caper brought to the stage in thrilling fashion
Direct from Melbourne, Northwest by Northwest hurtles into Toronto for its North American premiere. Adapted from Alfred Hitchcock's classic movie, this comic caper is just the right mix of thrilling action set pieces, snappy one liners and sparky romance. The story follows an advertising executive, portrayed by Cary Grant in the movie, who becomes embroiled in a murder plot that sees him chased across the country by thugs, Feds and spies. The man behind this stage adaptation is Simon Phillips, director of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which also held its North American premiere in Toronto, back in 2010.
After mistaken for someone named 'George Kaplan', suave advertising executive Roger Thornhill is whisked away to a Long Island estate by a couple of kidnappers. Following an interrogation and a failed staged car accident, he flees, and so begins his cross-country escapade. Can Roger figure out what on earth is going on, as he tries to stay on step ahead of lots of people who seem intent on killing him?
