The Last Ship

The Last Ship at Princess of Wales Theatre

Why see The Last Ship?

Starring Sting

Music legend Sting will lead his own critically acclaimed music The Last Ship at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Drawn from Sting's memories of growing up in the North East of England, this stirring and politically-astute show is a portrait of close knit communities holding their own against the odds.

The Last Ship held its world premiere in Chicago in 2014, and enjoyed subsequent runs on Broadway and London's West End. It drew particular praise for Sting's score, with The Guardian's Michael Billington calling it "some of the most thrilling choral writing I've heard in a British musical." This Toronto staging will be only the second production in which the singer songwriter himself has starred.

What is The Last Ship about?

When their shipyard finally closes in the 1980s, foreman Jackie White inspires his co-workers to take over the shipyard and build one final ship. Meanwhile, prodigal son Gideon returns home after his father's death, having left fifteen years ago and abandoned his relationship with Meg whom he left behind. Is he too late to make amends and start their lives together?

The Last Ship

Our seats were orchestra R. They were great seats. It is suitable for adults and older children, maybe grade five and up as it is over two hours long. The sets of the ocean and the ship docks were very realistic. Thus Irish music was lively and the dancing was well done. The cast were very enthusiastic. It was great to see Sting in person and he is in lots of scenes, singing, speaking, or doing simple dance. The audience liked The Last Ship as it received a long standing ovation from the audience. It is a great production based on the life of Sting and I hope it does well. ... Read more
