The songs of Gordon Lightfoot, including the titular Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, score this exciting theatrical event, from Harmony House and Mike Ross, that tells the story of the ill-fated ship, from its maiden voyage to the cold November night of its sinking. Featuring a cast of actor musicians, the brand new show shines a light on one of Canada's most beloved singer-songwriters and the moving true-life tale that inspired him.
The largest freighter ship on Lake Superior, the Edmund Fitzgerald, enjoyed a career of 17 years of traversing the lake's icy waters before the stormy evening of November 10th, 1975, when she was lost with all 29 hands on board. Inspired by an article he read on the sinking, Lightfoot immortalised her story in his ballad, hitting number 1 in 1976. Since he died in 2023, the sinking has been remembered with 31 rings of the memorial bell at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy as "29 for the lives lost that day back in 1975 on Lake Superior, once for all lives lost at sea, and once for singer Gordon Lightfoot, who wrote the ballad of the ship's sinking."
