Permanence

"The texture will always be there, underneath, no matter how many coats you put over it, but I like it that way."
Why see Permanence?
canadian premiere
Cyd Casados' intriguing play about the intersects between sex, art and addiction premieres at Toronto's Tarragon theatre this summer. Uncompromising and provocative, Permanence introduces us to lovers Rebecca (Samantha Michelle) and Steve (Ludovic Hughes), two emotionally independent people that refuse to conform to the restraints offered by a traditional relationship.
Amongst the paint and turpentine of Steve's studio, their affair deepens and eventually implodes into a raw battle of the sexes. But at what point does self-expression become self-harm?
An unsparing dissection of a doomed relationship, Permanence covers the highs and lows of a modern relationship, whilst asking us if it is possible to truly fall for someone when we've spent so much time lying to ourselves and the world around us.
