Seong-Jin Cho Performs Beethoven
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, celebrated English conductor Sir Andrew Davis and special guest performer Seong-Jin Cho invite audiences to revel in the genius of Beethoven with this all Beethoven program. The evening begins with the royal pomp of the King Stephen Overture, followed by Piano Concerto No. 4, an instantly recognisable piece eclipsed only by the Eroica Symphony. Things come to a rousing close with the Seventh Symphony, a stirring, orchestrally dark work that gives away to a truly life-affirming finale.
Piano virtuoso Seong-Jin Cho rose to the international spotlight after winning the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition, simultaneously making history as the first South Korean performer to win it. Possessed of a formidable keyboard technique, his quirky interpretative personality, emotional depth and a sensitive key touch mark him as an instrumentalist apart from his peers.
