The iconic Canadian love story returns
A classic Canadian drama, the beloved play by David French and Factory Theatre returns to Toronto after a two-year absence, for a new engagement as part of the 2017/18 Mirvish season. Taking us back to 1926, we experience Newfoundland in the years after the First World War, when the young and ambitious are leaving in droves to find their fortunes in the big cities. Amidst this social exodus however, are two young people, two former lovers who reunite under a starry night to contemplate their past - and a possible future together.
Helmed again by Ravi Jain for this second run of the beautifully re-imagined revival of French's play, one of five written about the fictional Mercer family, who had left Newfoundland for Toronto (incidentally, Newfoundland was French's home state). Originally premiering in 1984, Salt Water Moon has enjoyed hundreds of productions over the years, as well as being taught in schools; it has also won three major awards, namely the Canadian Authors Association Award for Drama, the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Best New Play, and the Hollywood Drama-Logue Critics' Award.
