Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Arrive at Tortonto
Tony Award-winning tragicomedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead hits the stage for a month-long run at CAA Theatre. Set as a side-story to Shakespeare's Hamlet, Tom Stoppard's absurdist classic follows the two titular minor characters from that play, detailing their bemusement at the events that appear to be unfolding without them yet carrying them towards their ultimate fate.
First staged at the 1966 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern has seen countless reproductions and been adapted for radio as well as the big screen, with a 1990 film version featuring Tim Roth and Gary Oldman as leads. Playwright Tom Stoppard's accolades include an Academy Award for his work on Shakespeare In Love, plus Tony Awards for Travesties, The Real Thing and The Coast of Utopia. This production is directed by Jeremy Webb, Neptune Theatre's Artistic Director, and comes to Toronto after opening in Halifax, NS.
