DAZZLING!

We all know the story but this incredible interpretation was simply a delight for the senses. We were bombarded with amazing choreography, gorgeous music and "heavenly" singing. The energy and pace that the story is presented will leave you breathless. It is certainly a "must view"! Do not miss this treasure!

F**KING AMAZING

Amazing. When we sat down we were like, where’s the orchestra? Then the curtain opened and it was just…wow. Not generally a fan of minimalist sets but this one was perfect. Set, costume design, amazing. Choreography—amazing. Music—amazing. We were 3rd row and saw everyone up close. Their acting, singing, all amazing. Direction—edging amazing. If you don’t love this performance, I am sorry, there is something very wrong with you

INVENTIVE AND MUSICALLY SATISFYING PRODUCTION

I saw the saturday matinee and was impressed by the production's slickness and also the impressive sound and lighting design. I was very disappointed that there was no prior announcements that the roles of Jesus and Judas would be played by understudies, who though quite good, gave me no option to get my money back or swap my premium price ticket to see the proper cast as reviewed in the papers. I think that Mirvish should be upfront about this but now have left a bad taste in my mouth as I feel I have been gouged. I shall be wary of seeing anything Mirvish puts out in the future.

UNDERWHELMING OPENING NIGHT SHOW

I have always enjoyed the music from JCSuperstar, having seen 2 previous touring productions over the years. I found the cast underwhelming and was particularly disappointed that the understudy for JC performed on opening night, with no public announcement or disclosure from mirvish productions. Set was distracting for me with band sharing stage on top deck of set structure. Lead voices were weak and audio mixing and sound very muffled at times. Not one of the more memorable touring productions of this legendary musical

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

The volume was too loud and the sound system was poor...overall it was ok...not great ...the under study was not great. .

DROP THE MICS

I would like to give this Toronto production a better rating as I am a huge Jesus Christ superstar fan. I have the original album signed by Ted Neeley , I’ve seen Ted Neeley perform the role in person, and I know every word to every song. So between Covid and my fandom , I was really looking forward to this marvellous production. But I’m sad to say it did not live up to my expectations. First, there were some stand out performances. The roman prelates were fabulous, I thought Pontius pilot was well done, herod was great, Mary was a little under played and a tad boring but her vocals were pure and I was looking forward to more of her but was disappointed, and Judas had some great moments but was inconsistent across the show. However, what really it irritated me was how they have chosen to stage this production. To have the Jesus Christ superstar character with a hair top bun , awkwardly carrying around a guitar on and off across the show but never really playing it with the exception of a couple tunes, really irked me. It was like many times in the production they didn’t know what to do with the Jesus Christ superstar character, like where to stage him ,where to move him and so he had these awkward movements around the stage where he didn’t do very much and looked like he wasn’t doing very much. He reminded me of the guy that always brings a guitar to a party but only plays the same chords over and over and never really sings a whole song. And if that’s how they saw Christ in this production, that’s part of the reason he’s ineffective in the role. The actor playing him in my opinion didn’t have a very wide emotional range, did not articulate many of the lines so it was hard to hear what he was saying as he sometimes was drowned out by the loud music. Judas had some of the same issues as some of his most famous lyrics were hard to decipher . I know that the person with me lost some of the story because the words were hard to hear at times. I really hated the choice to have them singing in mics as well ,there was this awkward ongoing struggle of watching them maneuver the mic around the stage and the mic cords around the stage to sing the “big song” which broke the continuity of the songs and the story as they awkwardly passed the mics to each other back-and-forth including when christ, supposedly is in agony rolling around the stage on the floor in pain but stopping to grab the mic to sing a song. I think with that awkward staging direction both in terms of poor choreography for Christ, him struggling to find a place to hold his guitar or not across the whole show and the people manoeuvring the mic around the stage , these kind of broke my interest and concentration. And, Jesus never really came to life until about 3/4 through the show so I think a better actor would make the show stronger. judas s suicide could have been mire powerful too by actually showing a body hanging instead of another mic throw.

LOUD, SCREECHY, BORING

No set changes, no costumes, no speaking whatsoever to tie the story together, very loud and screechy, couldn't understand words being sung, boring. We walked out, and I've seen a lot of theater.
