Amazing tenor Pene
It was amazing, a really nice show. But the voice of the tenor was stunning, so good. I loved him. After Pavarotti's exhibitions I never was so passionate. His colorfull voice, so powerful and so rounded. It was a real pleasure.
Toronto deserves better!
Last night Friday October 6 I was at the La Boheme show at the Four Seasons centre or the performing arts. I do not have to say much for the vocals but Mimi and Rudolfo were both very good. What strikes me in a negative way is the scenography and the decor of the opera! This is not the first time that I am disappointed on this at this theatre . Even in other productions for the sake of more modern and newest trends the scenes/ decors are too simplistic and poor. We know the drama and the conditions of the four artists, but no, it shouldn't be just some wood and cardboards! The other scenes Paris/ restaurant etc were terrible as well. The superbe Puccini music leaves you amazed from start to finish but this shouldn't be enough to yield a nice production which the art lovers lovers of Toronto so much deserve. Please look at other La Boheme productions in other world theatres: even in much smaller countries and theatres you can find fantastic productions and scenographies. We deserve better . The Puccini's superbe music deserves better...
Weak
From reading the excellent reviews for the opening night I was sorely disappointed with the performance on April 11 pm. For me it was a watered down version of an opera that I love. In the first two acts the upper octaves were substituted with lower ranges and in act two one the most powerful arias was poorly sung by Mimi though Rudolpho held his own and carried the tune. Yes I said tune! The last two acts were lack lustre ending the opera on a less than memorable experience.
