Meet Amit Shah, the creator of Mystic India
Mystic India's World Tour hits Toronto!
Described as "Electrifying and immensely original" by the New India Times get ready to be wowed by Mystic India! In anticipation of the show Landing in Toronto next month we met its creator, Amit Shah to find out what it's all about.
What do you want your audiences to take away from Mystic India?
Mystic India is not only a show that takes audiences on a journey through India but also one that speaks largely about embracing diversity. Our audiences who have not had the opportunity to visit India walk away with knowledge about Indian culture, how India has modernized through many generations, and how Indian culture is celebrated all around the world by so many people. We really want audiences to dance in their seats, sing along, and enjoy the beauty and richness of the Indian culture.

What does Bollywood mean to you?
Bollywood is the film industry in India, and while films are only a small part of Indian culture, Bollywood has given Indian culture familiarity around the world. Bollywood films are watched more in other countries today than they ever have before, and it's largely because of Bollywood music is influenced by music from around the world. Bollywood has allowed Indians who live in other parts of the world to stay connected to our culture in many ways since music from Bollywood is played at almost every Indian celebration, wedding, and festival.
How did Mystic India come about?
I really wanted to develop a show that painted a broader picture of India, gave more insight into the many dance forms that India has, and why Bollywood has become so popular globally. I also wanted the entire experience to be enjoyed by people of all nationalities and ages. It has been an ambitious project with lots of moving parts, but the love we have seen around the world has been more than what I ever expected. I am truly grateful to be able to be a part of this production.

If you could describe Mystic India in three words, what would they be?
Colorful. Inviting. Unforgettable.
Will you see much of Toronto whilst you're here?
Unfortunately, we are only in Toronto for a couple days and will be very busy preparing for the show, but we absolutely look forward to meeting the wonderful audiences in Toronto. Although this is our first show in the heart of Toronto, many people have come to see our show in many other parts of Canada. One of the best parts of touring Mystic India is the people we get to talk to after the show. Our cast will meet the audience and get to hear their reactions and take photos with them, and it is definitely a very rewarding part of the experience.
Thank you to Amit for letting us delve into the world of Mystic India. Don't miss your chance to see Mystic India at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on February 23!
