Maria Bamford Brings Her Dark & Quirky Comedy To Toronto
Over the course of 10 entertainment-packed days, the JFL42 Comedy Festival takes over Toronto and gives audiences the chance to see a star-studded roster of heavyweight headliners as well as 42 up-and-coming comedy acts from across the nation (hence the '42' in its moniker). Back for its fifth year running, the rib-tickling festivities have grown by 15 percent since 2015, with a grand total of over 73,000 attendees flocking to the city's top venues for a whirlwind of wry observations, side-splitting sketches and hilarious stand-up routines.
Celebrated American comic Maria Bamford is a stand out stand-up thanks to her unique view of life, fusing artful self-deprecation, jokes about her personal experiences of depression and anxiety, and an upbeat quirkiness that has won over audiences the world over. Her accolades include stints on cult-hit sitcom Arrested Development as well as her very own Netflix original series Lady Dynamite, which has drawn much critical acclaim for her courageous and wickedly funny tackling of more controversial topics like mental breakdowns, suicide and psychiatry.
