THE LAST SHIP

Our seats were orchestra R. They were great seats. It is suitable for adults and older children, maybe grade five and up as it is over two hours long. The sets of the ocean and the ship docks were very realistic. Thus Irish music was lively and the dancing was well done. The cast were very enthusiastic. It was great to see Sting in person and he is in lots of scenes, singing, speaking, or doing simple dance. The audience liked The Last Ship as it received a long standing ovation from the audience. It is a great production based on the life of Sting and I hope it does well.

THE LAST SHIP

My husband and I attended opening night . The energy of the performer's was incredible. Sets incredible, and a truly engaging story sung in the strongest and truest voices. Having Sting in attendance was a wonderful bonus. We also had great seats, I don't know that I've ever been closer. Wonderful show. Walked out singing!

LOVED IT ALL

the singing was amazing and we really loved the 3d graphics and effects.Really well put together and even though the play was rather sobering the message was a hopeful one.

THE LAST SHIP

This show was remarkable. The music and performances were top notch. I know the Newcastle story all too well. I was extremely moved by the memories it stirred and the pride in the Northern spirit. Well done Sting. It was a pleasure.

LOVED IT!

After a bit of difficulty understanding the first 2 musical numbers My ears must have adapted because I loved it. Sets were great, the entire cast was wonderful. Sting was amazing. Highly recommend

THE LAST SHIP

For the first half I had trouble hearing what people were saying/singing. The chorus and orchestra were louder than the main singers. The set was cool. The music was pretty good. After the intermission, it seemed somewhat easier to understand.

SONGWRITING GREAT; SHOW BLEAK

The songwriting was really the highlight of this show for me; I’ve always enjoyed the album and the minimalist instrumentation on stage brought out the power of Sting’s ability to craft a great melody. The show, portraying the ship builder community, to me felt very heavy, dreary, and was never truly uplifting. By the second act I was pretty disconnected and was just waiting for the next song. Having known the album beforehand, I felt the song choice was odd since there was songs on the album I was waiting to hear but did not, and they decided to pepper in songs from Stings Soul Cages era. While “All This Time” and “When we Dance” are AMAZING songs, they felt out of place in the play and it bugged me to hear them “broadway-ized”. The Last Ship has great music written for it, keep it in the show! Being a big fan of Stings work this show was worth it for me but as far as a show goes I was disappointed.

MEDIOCRE AT BEST

Overall a long meandering show that tries hard and has a couple of standout performances. If you are seeing this because you are a big Sting fan, you will be disappointed. He isn’t a lead character and he does not sing any solos. He is not onstage for long periods of time and plays a character that is sick so he doesn’t come out with booming vocals. Overall it was a nice night out but we could have done a lot more entertaining things with our $400

NO FLOW WHATSOEVER

Honestly this could well be the worst musical theatre production I have ever been to (and yes, I go to many, and also yes, I do like Sting!). There was no fluidity in the scenes, the songs, the multitude of differing accents. There were the expected predictable caricature characters (a “drunk Davey”....what a surprise). I wish I had seen and felt what other people were apparently seeing and feeling, while watching the same production. So many reviews are polar opposite, with none of us wrong. So individual, subjective.

SLOW, BORING...DISAPPOINTING

The storyline is dull and mostly predicatable. Stings voice is not good...he sounds his age. The cast is fine....meh to be more precise. Absolutely nothing special about this show at all
