NOT THE BEST PERFORMANCE

I attended this show last night. It was good, but certainly not great. Disappointed.

DISAPPOINTING - STILL ANREW LLOYD WEBBER MUSIC THOUGH

We have seen productions all over the world, this was by far the most disappointing. Stage scenes were lacking in grandeur and actor movements often seemed contrived rather than flow with the scene. Sat in balcony and music overpowered Christine's singing. Could hear Phantom sing, but again not soaring. Restaged Masquerade was well short of earlier stagings on a grand staircase. Scene on roof of Opera House was dismal - if you were not aware of plot, you would not realize it was a rooftop. Worth seeing if you haven't seen before, likely disappointed if you have seen earlier productions.

SO DISAPPOINTING!

The cast had some strong voices, but they all sang too fast. “All I ask ask of you” needs to Have passion and love. There was no chemistry between them. Christine is torn between the Phantom and her lover. Didn’t showcase that well. Raoul’s voice was too naizel for his character. Christine was too short and didn’t fit the roll. She had a good voice. The sets where great but we walked away during intermission.

DISAPPOINTED

I have to say that this last performance of Phantom of the Opera was VERY disappointing. Having seen it 15+ times from L.A. to Las Vegas to Portland, this production fell flat. Not only did they make major changes to the sets (boat ride to the labyrinth, staircase in the Masquerade ball, office of the opera owners???, and most of all, the Chandelier!!) those things that make a statement weren't there. I think they were trying to save money this time around. Costumes weren't as elaborate either. But the REAL disappointment was that they changed the ENDING!! All this being said, the singing by everyone was good and the orchestra was great I think I'll pass on this the next time it comes to the Keller. The price of an orchestra seat wasn't worth it this time. But if you've never seen it before, you won't know the difference. So enjoy.

VERY DISAPPOINTING

This is my fourth viewing of the stage play and was by far the worst. The three previous productions were superior in every way. The actors did not project their voices adequately and even though I had a decent seat, I missed a great deal of the dialogue. I knew Mme Giry's relationship with the Phantom because I had read the book, But I certainly wouldn't have picked it up from what she mumbled on stage. The singing voices, except for Carlotta, were poor although the costumes were splendid. The boat ride through the mist was severely truncated by all the scenery on the stage and the scope and grandeur that should characterize the sets were lacking. The performance in general was lackluster. This is my favorite musical and I hate for my last encounter with the music of the night to have been so disappointing. I wouldn't take anyone to see this show although it is suitable for tweens and up and for mothers of a certain age,

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

I was happy to see this was coming to Providence, couldn't wait to see it again after over 10 years. I wasn't happy, this wasn't as engaging as the last time I saw it. Some of the new sets were fine, others looked cheap. Some scenes felt like they were rushed. Usually the ending makes you feel bad for the Phantom but not this one, I never had that feeling. The Phantom sang well but was not believable plus he was way to tall. Something just didn't feel right. Last time I left with a fond memory of the show, this one I will forget quickly. Bottom line,,if it is your first time seeing it you may like it, if you saw it before you may be disappointed.

EH

Pros: great orchestra, great pyrotechnics, phantom was a great singer, the chandelier was very impressive. Cons: Where do i start, the woman who played Christine had no emotion or power behind her voice, the phantom wasnt great at acting, a few VERY unnecesarry changes to the show including singing and stage setups, ie. The Masquerade scene didnt have stairs, the main focus of the scene and the song. The cast didnt have as grand of costumes as others i have seen for the scene and the phantom didnt have his iconic large skull mask. The phantoms lair was nowhere near as impressive as most setups and it was very obvious where he disappered to at the end, unfortunate they did not use the normal chair. The phantom never came down in the statues at the top of the stage like the normal version and the whole play felt rushed and unemotional. Definatley not a show to remember.
