MARCUS KING BAND

Over 2 1/2 hrs of non stop outstanding entertainment!!!! Marcus King is SRV back from the dead. High energy outstanding in multiple categories (Blues, Rock, Soul, Country). Over the last 18 months Marcus' voice has really matured. They are the next best kept secret, hope they stay humble as they are now....If you were gonna go you should have gone. I would consider traveling to see him again if he isn't back in Chi-town soon.

MARCUS KING AT THE NEPTUNETHEATER, SEATTLE

Saw the Marcus King Band Friday night, should be a 5 star review, but in spite of a great showing by a 7 piece band, the sound mix was horrible, way too loud for a theater that only holds 800 people. No clarity with the vocals for the warm up act (Neil Francis) or the headliner. My ears were still ringing Saturday morning.

MARCUS KING BAND LIVE IN MANCHESTER UK

Went to see MKB ( 26/03/23) at the O2 Ritz Manchester, UK. Aside for some fantastic renditions of the songs from his new album”El Dorado” and from previous records, they played some cracking covers with Rolling Stones, James Brown, Ceelo Green some of the highlights. Unfortunately the sound was disappointing for this venue…too loud with little definition. The nuance was just about lost on MK guitar solos in the mush! Enjoyed it but sort out your sound Marcus!

SOUND BOARD INCOMPETENCE

Feb 9 Vancouver. I must say the I was stoked to be going to see Marcus and his band. I’ve seen all the YouTube and bought three records. However, I was extremely disappointed with the sound engineer. Usually, the sound is best right beside the engineer and his/her sound board. Not so last night. I moved around the venue trying to find a sweet spot but there were none. There was no separation of instruments apparent in the sound. Marcus’ guitar solos were obscured almost completely when the full band was going. His great voice was even muddled. The band put out a long solid show, it’s a shame the sound engineer needed to read his smart phone messages while I stood beside him wondering why he wasn’t trying to improve. It’s was as if the band were all being projected from one monitor. Flat. No single performer stepping out of the mix at all, all night long. Marcus you work too hard to have this kind of incompetence mark your shows. Look forward to another visit with a better sound person.

BOULDER THEATRE VALENTINE’S DAY.

Sound was way off. Too distorted, too loud, and pitchy. Amazing musician too bad it wasn’t dialed in.

TERRIBLE FOH MIX

The good news was the band, the stage, and aesthetics looked amazing. The light show was on par for this great band. After the warm up acts and lights went low, the band came out on stage to the background music of James Brown - the excitement was palpable. Unfortunately the band mix was so noisy, and mushy - there was no separation between guitars, keys, and vocals. It seemed as though the engineer was not interested in creating clarity? The keys were too mid bass heavy, the guitars were overshadowing the vocals. I'm always amazed at these type of situations - it's as if the FOH Engineer never listened to the actual recordings!?? What's more they could not fix the noisy, volume riddled show. Too bad - it was my first time seeing Marcus King, and I ended up leaving early.

GREAT SHOW. BAD SOUND.

Saw MK at the Neptune last night. It was a great show including the opening acts. Unfortunately the sound was terrible. Couldn’t understand any of the lyrics and everything was just loud. When you listen to the albums you can hear the horns and different layers to the music which is what makes MK so great. Last night had its moments but it was just overrun by a mash of distorted noise.

PLEASE HIRE A NEW BOARD GUY

As others have stated - the sound was awful - the range was flooded, vocals and solos lost. There is no doubt to ability, but it was an unpleasant experience to see it but not hear it.

MARCUS IS A STAR BUT THE SOUND WAS UNBELIEVABLY BAD. SHOCKINGLY BAD.

It was a crying shame how bad the sound was. This was not helped by the sound person nor the over-the-top power the players had onstage.

MARCUS KING AT MISSION BALLROOM DENVER

Overplayed, uncoordinated wall of mush last night, and that can't all be blamed on a sound engineer....maybe there wasn't one? Why, oh why would ANYONE put Willy Nelson, Danny O'Keefe, and Country-esque Mick Jagger into an over-cooked swamp-rock gumbo? A "Wild Horses" duet with no harmony was not worth playing (or listening to) with a guest singer who was brought on for ONE song. Intros for the King band were remarkably awful, from Neil Francis (?) to some so-called comedian (couldn't understand his name or "humor") - an embarrassment of lousy management from AEG which seems to be routine for this music-blind promotion cartel. I will be extremely careful to go to another show at the Mission!

GREAT SONGS, TERRIBLE SOUND

The two opening bands were great, just wish I could of heard the lyrics,, sounds was so F**** up. Waited way too long watching the stage being cleaned off for Marcus.. and then waited for him....then couldn't hear a thing lyrically, it was mush. Lousy sound! Not impressed at all, the instrumental solos that I look forward literally sounded like noise. We left early after traveling from Granite Falls and then dealing with down town Seattle. Will think twice next time, was not impressed, should of read the reviews would of known the sound sucks and they do not listen to the public.. Looks like its been going on all tour, not just here. Fire your sound guy

WANTED TO HEAR THE MARCUS KING BAND

I went to see and hear the Marcus King band at the theater of the Living Arts last night Tuesday December 10th. I saw the band but what I heard sounded like a high school band in a gymnasium. The sound was very poor! I saw two horn players but never heard a single horn sound all night. The bass player sounded like he was playing at 11. Marcus Kings guitar playing and vocals were very distorted and muddy sounding. And while we're on the subject the theater of the Living Arts apparently doesn't care about the people since they packed in way more people than the venue could hold. I can't blame the lack of care from theater of the Living Arts on Marcus King but if Marcus wants his fans to enjoy the concert he needs to address the sound issue.

SOUND GUYS BLEW IT

Words cannot express how disappointed our whole party is over the ridiculously blown out sound at last night's show at the Uptown Theatre in KC. All of us are huge fans of Marcus and were so looking forward to seeing him live at the peak of his young career. Others who attended the show said the same thing. Not sure of the sound engineers are employees of the theatre or if they with the tour, but they should be fired. Like another reviewer here, I moved around theatre and even sat for a few minutes right next to the sound booth. It was bad everywhere! I even typed and all caps message on my phone and showed it to one of the "engineers" and he just shrugged it off. Lesson learned I guess. Don't go to shows at rinky dink old theaters where the acoustics apparently can't be managed.

TERRIBLE SOUND

I was really looking forward to this show, love Marcus king and the band As some other reviewers stated. Whoever was in charge of sound should be fired. That was the worst sound I’ve ever heard at any concert. Nobody stood out in the mix. Marcus could have been in the wrong key and you wouldn’t have known. Wall of absolute mush.

HORRIBLE SOUND AT THE WILTERN IN LA

What a letdown. For such an amazing band and lead singer/guitarist. All the instruments were a big mush pot of noise and you couldn’t hear Mr.King’s voice well. No one instrument could be heard. Please hire a new sound engineer!

GOT SOME WORK TO DO. TERRIBLE SOUND MIX.

I love Marcus King & the band but the show at Masonic last night was a poor showing, indeed. I'm not sure who was in charge of the sound board but the result was comically bad (and super annoying for veteran fans). Rumbling mush with no definition. Couldn't hear Marcus' guitar, no horns, no bass (how do you set a groove with no bass!), no kick drum. Nothing stood out. Felt bad for the guys. Wasn't a show to pick up more fans. I know how much those guys can rock, unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to see it.

SOMETHING IS OFF WITH MKB

Saw MKB last night (10/18/22) at the Mission Ballroom. Sold out show, openers were good and the sound was fine during those acts. Everyone was pretty pumped, standing and ready to go. Most around us were seated by the 3rd song and MKB just sucked, muddled, distorted, loud and chaotic. Nothing fit musically and we left after about 30 minutes feeling pretty let down. Other reviews are calling out the sound as the the issue, levels, mic'ing who knows ... but something is off because I think MK is capable of putting on great shows and should evaluate what the hell is going on.

TIRED OF THE ROAD?

As noted by many, early and often, the sound was bad. Too loud, bass drum and bass too loud, guitar not distinct. I have the first three albums and have been listening to Marcus since before the trip out with Chris Robinson. I say "tired" because fatigue happens on a long road stretch and the lack of caring for experience for the audience is what happens. This was not a good show at all. The tempo was too fast, too much new material and not any of the feel of the first albums. I expected to see a pedal steel guitar somewhere. Too much trying to be something else or not caring, just "getting through" the show. Definitely not the next SRV as one reviewer stated. The rhythm guitar was more entertaining to listen to as well as the Neal Francis band. I have seen hundreds of shows in several genres and only thought about or walked out of 3-4. Definitely thought about it a few times during this show.
