Why See Batsheva Dance Company: Decadance?

Dance & Ballet

Israel's celebrated modern dance company

Tel Aviv-based dance company Batsheva are headed back to North America on tour, and are performing in Toronto for one night only in January! Featuring the school's Young Ensemble of 16 dancers, the evening comprises a medley of leading choreographer Ohad Naharin's best-known work with the Company, all created since gaining tenure in 1990. Excerpts include Kyr, Zachacha, Seder and Sadeh21.

Formed in 1964 by modern dance pioneer Martha Graham and Baroness Batsheva De Rothschild, the Company originally danced exclusively to the works of Graham, who was considered at the time as the "Picasso of Dance", having been the first performer to dance at the White House. In later years the Company moved away from the Graham method of dance, instead working with emerging Israeli choreographers, leading to Naharin taking over in 1990.
